Mozarabic Way Weekend
From the centre of Málaga to El Torcal, on foot
A weekend to see how we work
At eight on Saturday morning you walk out of the centre of Málaga. The first few minutes are in silence, while the city falls behind and the Mozarabic Way starts to climb. We stop often to eat and drink, and by mid-afternoon you reach Almogía with tired legs, more than ready for dinner. On Sunday, after Qi Gong, you climb up among the rocks of El Torcal.
If you walk fairly regularly and want to see what an expedition is like before committing to a longer one, this is the place to start.
A long walk, then a summit
There’s one level for both, aimed at people who walk regularly. Tap either one to see the details.
All the challenges
1. The long day · Saturday · Mozarabic Way, Málaga to Almogía
About 22 km and around 750 m of total climb from the centre of Málaga, with a stop every 30–60 minutes and a cut-off time. The hills come in the second half. For a shorter day, join the group in Puerto de la Torre at around 11:00 and walk the last 14 km or so.
2. The summit · Sunday · El Torcal
From Villanueva de la Concepción, about 5 km and around 450 m of climb up to the rocks of El Torcal.

Is it for you?
Who it’s for
One level (3 of 5): for people who walk regularly and can manage a 6–7 hour day with breaks. If you’d rather walk less, take the shorter option from Puerto de la Torre. It’s a good first step if you want to try the method before a long trip.
Who it’s not for
People who don’t usually walk, and anyone who wants a hotel. The accommodation is simple, in shared rooms.
What the trip includes
Included
- Guides and a Qi Gong teacher
- One night in a country house in Almogía, in a shared room
- Dinner, breakfast and two picnics
- Sunday minibus from El Torcal back to the centre of Málaga
- Official Camino credential, if you’d like one
- Accident insurance
- Kit and follow-up
Not included
- Getting to the centre of Málaga on Saturday and home from there on Sunday
- Cancellation insurance (optional)
- Personal expenses
Small groups
There’s one member of our team for every eight travellers. We stick to the programme and only change it for reasons beyond our control. If that ever happens, you’ll hear from us in writing, with another option.
Another weekend in the hills. Grazalema Weekend follows the same format in the Sierra de Grazalema, on different dates.
The essentials
You’ll get the full list, including clothes and a first-aid kit, once your place is confirmed.
Private groups
We can run it on another date in the season, just for your team. The trip is booked through your own travel agency or a registered agency we suggest, and we run the programme. Write to df@dragonflyhubagency.com and we’ll put together a proposal.
- Private group of 10 to 16 people, on a date of your choice between October and May.
- A long day’s walk as a team, going at the pace of the slowest and looking out for each other.
- No flights. You set off on foot from the centre of Málaga and come back by minibus.
What people ask us
Do I need any Qi Gong experience?
No. There’s a session every morning for all levels.
What if I’ve never walked 22 km?
If you walk regularly, the eight weeks of preparation will get you there. It’s a long day, but we stop every 30–60 minutes and nobody’s in a hurry.
Is there a shorter option?
Yes. You join the group at around 11:00 in Puerto de la Torre (you can get there by city bus) and walk the last 14 km, hills included.
What about the Camino credential?
If you’d like one, we’ll give you the official credential from Santiago Cathedral, so you can carry on with your Camino later. This stage on its own doesn’t qualify you for the Compostela.
The trip will be organised by a registered travel agency, which we’ll name when places open.
