Grazalema Weekend
From the pinsapo forest to the highest peak in Cádiz
A weekend among the pinsapos
On Saturday you arrive early in El Bosque and cross the Pinsapar on foot. It’s a forest of pinsapo, the Spanish fir, a tree that only grows in these mountains. You walk the first stretch in silence and have lunch among the trees, then head down to Benamahoma in the afternoon. On Sunday, after Qi Gong by the river, you climb El Torreón.
Each challenge has two levels, so everyone picks their own and the group meets up again at the end. If you’re thinking about a longer expedition, it’s a good first taste of how we work.
Through the forest, then up El Torreón
Each one has two levels, and you choose yours on the day. Tap either one to see it.
All the challenges, with both levels
1. The long day · Saturday · The Pinsapar, Grazalema to Benamahoma
Level A: About 12 km, mostly downhill, in the shade of the pinsapos, with a stop every 30–60 minutes.
Level B: The last stretch of the route, shorter and unhurried.
2. The summit · Sunday · El Torreón, 1,654 m
Level A: About 6 km there and back and around 800 m of climb, in a group of up to 10 people, with a cut-off time.
Level B: The flat Majaceite river path, about 4.4 km.

Who it’s for
Level A (4 of 5): for people who walk often and are happy with hills. Level B (2 of 5): for people who walk now and then. Both work well if you want to try the method before a long trip.
Who it’s not for
People who never walk.

Small groups
There’s one member of our team for every eight travellers. We stick to the programme and only change it for reasons beyond our control. If that ever happens, you’ll hear from us in writing, with another option.
Permits and season. The Pinsapar and El Torreón need a free permit from the regional government, which we arrange for you. Both are closed from 1 June to 15 October. El Torreón only allows groups of up to 10 people, so level A places are limited. In February it depends on the snow, and if the climb isn’t possible, level A joins level B on the river path.
The essentials
You’ll get the full list, including clothes and a first-aid kit, once your place is confirmed.
Private groups
We can run it on another date in the season, just for your team. The trip is booked through your own travel agency or a registered agency we suggest, and we run the programme. Write to df@dragonflyhubagency.com and we’ll put together a proposal.
- Private group of 10 to 16 people, from mid-October to May, when permits are available.
- Two levels on the same day. Everyone picks their own challenge and the team meets up again at the end.
- Easy to reach from Jerez, Málaga or Cádiz.
What people ask us
Do I need any Qi Gong experience?
No. There’s a session every morning for all levels.
What if it snows in February?
If the climb up El Torreón isn’t safe, level A walks the Majaceite river path with level B. The Pinsapar goes ahead as normal.
How do I get to El Bosque?
You make your own way there. It’s an hour from Jerez and under two hours from Málaga and Cádiz. We meet at 9:00 on Saturday.
Do I need to apply for the permit?
No, we arrange it for the whole group.
The trip will be organised by a registered travel agency, which we’ll name when places open.
